INGREDIENTS FOR GLUTEN APPLE CRISP
Flour: Many stores carry Bob Redmill's Gluten Free 1-to-1 Baking Flour. You can certainly try another all-purpose gluten free flour, but this is the only one I have tried with this recipe.
Oats: If you are making this recipe gluten free, make sure you check that your oats are labeled "gluten free."
Brown Sugar
Butter (softened): I love the buttery flavor in apple crisp, but if you are dairy free, you could replace the butter with melted coconut oil.
APPLES: Crisp apples like Granny Smith, Honey Crisp, or Jonagold work well in this recipe. A combination of them would be even better.
Lemon Juice: This prevents the apples from browning.
Vanilla Extract
Spices: Cinnamon, Nutmeg
Salt

HOW TO MAKE THE BEST GLUTEN FREE APPLE CRISP
You only need one large mixing bowl for this recipe! Start with making the gluten free apple crisp filling. Wash, peel, and slice your apples about 1/4" thick, so that they are somewhat evenly sliced. Add them to the large bowl.
Then add the brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, and cinnamon to the apples. Mix well so that the apples are evenly coated.
Pour the apples into the bottom of a greased 8x8 or 9x9 baking dish, or a 9" pie plate works well too.
Make the gluten free apple crisp topping in the same large bowl by combining the oats, flour, softened butter, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Use a fork to incorporate the ingredients together until totally moistened. Using your hands, sprinkle the crisp topping over the apple filling.
Bake in the oven for 50-60 minutes (or until golden brown and bubbly) at 350 degrees (F).
Before digging in, wait for 15 minutes or so to let the crisp settle and cool. Then, it's time to gobble it up with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
I love the aromas of this dessert coming out of the oven. It's nostalgic and comforting. This fall dessert is perfect for sharing at home with friends. You will want to save this recipe, and use it on repeat all season long!
